The Octohorpe House is built entirely from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and stands out as one of the first buildings to implement this material in Bend, Oregon. This home features three primary bedrooms plus an additional room, 3.5 bathrooms, an office, two great rooms, a dedicated mechanical room, a two-car garage, and an enclosed courtyard. For heating, the entire home utilizes a hydronic radiant floor system.
The exterior showcases a floating rain screen made of Japanese Cypress, treated with the Shou Sugi Ban technique. Notably, the house has no drywall, trim, or door jambs. Instead, matching door slabs seamlessly fill the openings, with hinges expertly hand mortised into the CLT door frame. This attention to detail required exceptional craftsmanship and careful planning throughout the project.
